“I pledge to support the right of British citizens living in the EU and EU citizens living in the UK to remain in their countries of residence, and to retain for life their current rights”
Five million people have made homes and built lives in another EU country, taking advantage of our freedom to do so as EU citizens.
Our ask is simple: that the British government seeks to ensure that British citizens in the EU can remain in their countries of residence in the event of Brexit and retain their current rights. This means that:
- All our current rights are maintained, including the right to freedom of movement, to family reunion, and the right to study in the UK paying the same fees and with the same loans as someone living in Britain;
- All our rights are guaranteed for life;
- These guarantees are kept separate from the Brexit negotiations (ring-fenced) and are not dependant on them, so our lives are not used as a bargaining chip; and
- Our citizens’ rights are enforceable through the Court of Justice of the European Union.
We seek the same guarantees for EU citizens in the UK. We are not asking for anything new, or for special treatment. All we are asking is that the rules of the game are not changed after the match has started.
That’s why, as the negotiations on citizens’ rights reach a crucial point this autumn, we are inviting MPs to sign up to a simple pledge.
If you are a UK citizen living in the EU, or an EU citizen living in the UK
Please forward this page to your MP and ask them to sign the pledge (don’t sign it yourself – it’s just for Members of Parliament!).
If you are an MP
Thank you for coming to this page and for signing the pledge below. Your support is very much appreciated.
